Jury finds Akron man guilty of murdering victim who chased him after robbery

AKRON, Ohio — On Tuesday, a Summit County jury found 24-year-old Christian Pittman guilty of the murder of a 28-year-old man who was shot while chasing Pittman and another armed man out of his girlfriend's apartment after a robbery last year.

On June 5, 2018, Pittman, of Akron, and Cenqunn Woods robbed a 29-year-old woman at an apartment she shared with Diamond Smith, 28, according to a news release from the Summit County Prosecutor.

As Pittman and Woods ran off, they were confronted by Smith, who had just got home, according to court records.

Pittman fired multiple shots at Smith, who later died.

Pittman was found guilty of murder with a firearm specification, aggravated robbery with a firearm specification, aggravated burglary with a firearm specifivation and tampering with evidence.

He will be sentenced on Jan. 16.

Woods' trial has yet to be scheduled.
