AKRON, Ohio — More than 700 people braved the cold and jumped in the chilly lake at the annual Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump Saturday afternoon and raised over $160,000.

With the help of more than 700 jumpers and the event’s volunteers, the Portage Lakes Polar Bear Club was able to raise more than $160,000 that will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House of Akron and the Rotary Camp for Children with Special Needs.

Law firm Kisling, Nestico & Redick joined in the polar plunge, raising $30,160 for the charity event, the top company of the day.

The Portage Lakes Polar Bear Club had set a goal to raise $150,000 for the two charities and have already surpassed that, with donations still coming in.
