Family and neighbors were able to stop a would-be robber from getting away after he tried to steal an Akron man's car over the weekend.
According to police, the man was working on his car stereo in his driveway around 7:30 p.m. Saturdayin the 2500 block of Conrad Avenue when he was confronted by the suspect.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Jack Zager of Akron, sat down on the driver's side of the victim's car and demanded the keys, police said. Zager then started walking toward the victim's house. As the victim tried to get inside, Zager tackled him and started punching and choking him.
During the struggle, the victim's family pulled into the driveway and jumped out to help.
Zager tried to get away with the victim's keys but relatives and neighbors tackled the suspect and held him down until officers arrived, according to police.
Zager was charged with robbery and assault and booked in the Summit County Jail. He was treated at the scene for facial injuries.
