The Akron Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery that happened Tuesday night where three men tried to force their way into a resident's home at gunpoint.
The incident happened in the 500 block of Wingerter Street around midnight. According to police, the 39-year-old victim said after hearing a knock at his door he opened it to find the men standing there. One of the men was armed with a shotgun. Another man was armed with a handgun.
The victim and the man armed with a shotgun got into an fight as the would-be robbers tried to pass through the doorway and the suspect fired a shot into the air, police said.
No injuries were reported. The three suspects fled the scene before police arrived. A complete description of the suspects is not available.
