CLEVELAND — Two Florida men have pleaded guilty to running a grandparent scam in Ohio.

John Pla, 25, and Johnny Palmer, 26, ran a grandparent scam that caused victims a loss of $383,932.

According to court documents, from July 20, 2020, to August 28, 2020, Pla and Palmer conspired together to target elderly victims in Brecksville, Parma, Gates Mills, Lorain, Mansfield, Fairview Park, Westlake, and Mentor.

Court records showed that one of them would call an elderly victim, claim to be a relative and inform that they were arrested and needed money for bail.

The other person would then arrange a courier to pick up the money in person and travel to their home in a rented U-Haul, according to court documents.

The pair is scheduled to be sentenced on July 26.
