2-year-old found wandering alone on Cleveland street

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police found a 2-year-old boy in a diaper wandering the streets unattended Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to 10501 Crestwood Avenue at about 11 a.m. to find the boy, a Cleveland police spokesperson said.

The child was taken to University Hospitals Rainbow Children’s Hospital for observation, the spokesperson said. The boy’s mother went to the hospital and picked him up.

Based on preliminary information, It appears that the mother left the child in the care of a 17-year-old babysitter, police said. The mother returned home and couldn’t find the child or the sitter.

Officers generated a child endangering report and contacted the Department of Child and Family Services. The sex crimes and child abuse unit will also follow up.
