A 20-year-old man was injured in a shooting in Ohio City late Sunday evening involving a stolen vehicle, according to the Cleveland Division of Police.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. near West 30th Street and Monroe Avenue. Second District detectives performing a "special operation targeting car break-ins and stolen vehicles," hear shots nearby and then the sound of a car crash.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found that the 20-year-old man had been shot and then crashed the vehicle he was driving, police said. Officers administered first aid until Cleveland EMS arrived and transported the man to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to Cleveland EMS, the man was last known to be in critical condition.
Police said that a preliminary investigation indicates that the man was driving a stolen vehicle when he was shot. The shooter was not located.
The injured man is facing charges relating to the stolen car, police said.
