CLEVELAND — A 40-year-old woman was shot and killed during an apparent road rage incident that occurred in Cleveland Saturday night.

Around 10:45 p.m., officers responded to the 3900 block of East 67th Street after receiving a report that a woman had been shot.

Once on scene, officers found a 40-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the back. Officers administered first aid until EMS arrived on scene, police said.

The woman, later identified as Christina Jones, was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, according to police.

Officers learned on scene that the woman was involved in a verbal altercation with a passenger of a vehicle that was speeding in the area. Officers were told that the vehicle almost struck a child and when the vehicle stopped at the intersection of East 67th Street and Worley, the passenger and the 40-year-old woman exchanged words, police said.

The passenger then exited the vehicle and fired a shot, which struck the woman in the back, according to police.

The shooting remains under investigation.
