Authorities release security camera footage of Glenville Recreation Center shooting

Posted

Security camera footage of a gun being fired inside Glenville Recreation Center in January has been released by Cleveland officials.

The shooting happened at 5:31 p.m. at the Cleveland Glenville Recreation Center, 680 East 113th St., on January 24.

While the video doesn't contain audio, it does show teens — who had been sitting together in the rec center's game room — take cover when they hear a shot fired from another room in the building. We have intentionally blurred their faces in the video above.

Police were unable to find any bullet holes in the walls or ceiling or any shell casings.

Even though an off-duty detective was working at the rec center at the time, it took administrators nearly 95 minutes to call police.

The manager told authorities police weren't called immediately because the staff was "trying to secure everything and make sure everybody was OK."

According to a police report, a 13-year-old boy who was known to carry a gun was seen running off after the shot was fired. The report also said a second teen was spotted on one of the security cameras with a gun in his waistband.

City officials said they are reviewing their policies and procedures in response to the shooting.

No arrests have been announced.
