Cleveland firefighters battled a house fire on West 77th Street between Franklin Boulevard and Detroit Avenue around 4 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters at the scene said that no one appeared to be staying in the upstairs unit of the duplex but there were signs that the downstairs apartment was occupied.
Thick smoke poured from the home and was sent throughout the neighborhood by the nearly 30 mph winds.
The fire was under control by 5 a.m.
The cause is under investigation.
