Coaching for youth basketball league through Boys and Girls Club goes above and beyond the court

Posted

Dozens of Cleveland youth have enrolled in a youth basketball league through the Boys and Girls Club.

The league is called Catch Me If You Can.

The slogan belonged to Alex Doody.

Kids ages 16 and younger are divided into multiple teams for a season that includes post-season play.

Athletic Director, Richard Starr said many of the youth don’t have athletics at school.

"Let’s teach some kids in the inner city, and youth has to really work on their basketball skills,” said Starr. "A chance for kids who are not as skilled as they want to be. We talk to kids about different things that are going on in life. We talk about different ways to address an official, ways to express yourself emotionally and physically. We know that dream brings them to the club, so we use that platform to teach them real-life moments."

The Boys and Girls Club has a partnership with the Cavs. Each kid takes a pledge: promising respect, good school attendance and investing in their basketball skills.
