Crash knocks out lights at I-490 & East 55th

The driver of a pickup truck heading eastbound on Interstate 490 went through a red light at East 55th Street and crashed into a scrap yard at the end of the highway just after 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Before the truck went off the road, it hit the traffic light control box, tearing it from the ground and exposing all the wires. The lights then fell into the intersection.

Delays are expected in the area throughout the morning because it is unlikely the lights will be repaired in time for the morning rush.

Cleveland police said the driver took off after the crash, leaving the truck wrecked inside the scrap yard.

Police have not located that person.
