Man accused in fatal beating of Cleveland landscaping business owner held on $1 million bond

CLEVELAND — A man accused in the fatal beating and murder of the owner of a Cleveland landscaping business over a year ago appeared in court Thursday for his arraignment.

Sedrick Hawkins, 25, pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder for the death of Larry Manno, 74, He was found by his secretary at his Buckeye Road Office in September 2019, beaten to death. His business had been ransacked. Manno was a fixture in the Cleveland community for decades, having operated Manno Landscaping for more than 30 years.

Manno died weeks later after the beating left him with critical injuries.

Hawkins was given a $1 million cash surety bond and assigned to Judge Michael Russo.

His next pretrial court appearance has been scheduled for Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. at the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas.
