Man assaulted, bit police officer during incident at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

CLEVELAND — An incident is under investigation after a man assaulted and bit a Cleveland police officer at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport Saturday, according to the Cleveland Division of Police.

Officers assigned to the airport responded to a call to assist Transportation Security Administration agents with a customer disturbance, police said.

During the response, the man involved in the disturbance became combative with police and bit one of the officers, according to authorities.

The man was taken into custody and later transported to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

The man had a service dog with him. The dog was taken to the city kennel without incident, police said.

The officer was not seriously injured, according to police.

The incident is still under investigation.
