An off-duty police officer was involved in a shooting outside a bar on Cleveland's west side early Saturday.

Around 2:30 a.m., police responded to the M&M Saloon at 12524 Lorain Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Responding officers found 24-year-old Derrick Yanetta with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police at the scene later learned that an Amsterdam, Ohio police officer who was working secondary employment at the bar heard the shots and saw the suspect — identified as 26-year-old Dominique Williams — running from the area.

The off-duty officer chased Williams and the two exchange gunfire. Williams was shot in the buttocks. He was caught a short time later and taken to Fairview Hospital for treatment.

The officer was not injured.

Williams was arrested in connection to the shooting.

The shooting remains under investigation.
