A 22-month-old baby is dead after he and his mother were hit by a truck on Cleveland's east side Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around noon on Monday in the 1900 block of Green Road.

Police say a 19-year-old woman, Sade Robinson, was pushing her son Troyonn Berger in a stroller when a truck went off the road and up into the driveway of the apartment, hitting the mother and son.

The vehicle then hit a tree on the opposite side of the road.

"He stopped, he did wait for police, this is not a hit skip incident, the driver was not thought to be OVI or under the influence of any substance," said Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia.

The baby died from his injuries.

The mother was taken to University Hospitals in critical condition. Her condition has been upgraded to stable condition.

The driver of the truck was not arrested.

Police said they are just starting this investigation.  The facts of the case will be presented to the prosecutor’s office.
