CLEVELAND — A 16-year-old boy who died Wednesday following a shootout and crash on Cleveland’s West Side was driving a stolen Cadillac with six other teens inside, according to police.

Authorities have not released the identity of the slain 16-year-old.

Police responded to West 97th Street and Loretta Avenue around 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a blue Cadillac Escalade that had crashed into a home in the 3500 block of West 97th Street.

The Escalade had been reported stolen several hours earlier, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the teens were driving through the area when someone opened fire on the Escalade and the 16-year-old returned fire, police said.

A loaded handgun was found outside the vehicle, authorities say.

The 16-year-old was found in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

The passengers of the vehicle included a 16-year-old girl, three 15-year-old girls, one 17-year-old boy and another 16-year-old boy, authorities said. The passengers weren’t injured in the crash or shooting.

No arrests or suspects have been announced. Authorities didn’t say if any of the teens will face possible charges.
