CLEVELAND — Police are investigating a homicide after a 67-year-old man who hadn’t been seen for weeks was found dead in a Cleveland home by officers performing a welfare check.

On Dec. 13 at about 9:40 a.m., officers responded to the home on Torbenson Drive for the welfare check, according to a news release from Cleveland police. Officers found mail and papers piled up, and entered the home.

The victim was found dead and decomposing in a bedroom. Members of the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office responded, and the incident was initially handled as a dead body report, the release states.

Upon further examination by the medical examiner’s office, the case was ruled a homicide as the victim suffered blunt force trauma to the head. Members of the homicide unit are investigating.
