Cleveland police are investigating a kidnapping that happened early Wednesday morning on the city's East Side.

Police responded to the 1700 block of East 33rd Street shortly before 2 a.m. after receiving a call from a man who said his friend texted him that she had just woken up and didn't know where she was.

The friend used a messaging app to locate the woman and then called the police to check the area where she appeared on the app.

Police drove through the area and located the 22-year-old woman tied up. According to the police report, the woman's hands had been tied up with a cell phone charging cable and she had a bloody handkerchief in her mouth.

The woman told police she last remembered being at Moe's Tavern on Tuesday during the day, but then she passed out and woke up next to her ex-boyfriend's house on East 33rd Street. The woman knocked on her ex-boyfriend's door but he didn't answer. She then contacted another friend, who reached out to Cleveland police, according to the report.

The woman told police she had received a text message that said, "Something gonna happen to your boyfriend," as well as an older text on her phone that said, "Meet me at Moes." Both texts came from unknown numbers, according to the report.

The woman was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center for evaluation.
