Cleveland police are pouring through surveillance video and pictures in an effort to catch suspects responsible for a series of break-ins at several west side nightspots.

Four of the burglaries occurred in one night, on Jan. 28, three of the locations hit are on Detroit Avenue in the Gordon Square area.

Cleveland Councilman Matt Zone responded to the break-ins by issuing a security memo to many business owners in Ward 15, asking them to check entry way security and remove all cash from registers at the end of the business day.

"It's individuals who are doing a smash and grab, they're going in, they're breaking into juke boxes," said Zone. "They are prying open anything that they think might have a little money, they're in and out in under 10 minutes."

"Obviously it's somebody who is not very sophisticated. It's somebody who is looking for a quick fix."

Zone told newsnet5.com surveillance cameras captured picture and video of many of the suspects involved, and police are working a few good leads.

Zone explained the burglaries took place at The Happy Dog, XYZ The Tavern and The Harp, all located on Detroit Avenue in his ward.

Police said break-ins have also been reported at Parkview Night Club, on West 58th Street, Platform Brewhouse on Lorain Avenue, and at Hooples on Columbus Road.

Anyone with information on these cases are being urged to contact Second District Cleveland Police Detective Janet Murphy at 216-623-5218 or e-mail at JMurphy3@city.cleveland.oh.us
