The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Geneva Wednesday evening in the area of Route 84 and Tuttle Road.

The medical examiner identified the man as 26-year-old Vincent Palma.

The Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office received a report of an unwanted male at a Geneva residence. Upon the deputy's arrival,  Palma approached the deputy despite commands to stop. After the deputy deployed his Taser, Palma persisted in moving towards the officer, which resulted in the warning shots fired into the ground.

Palma continued to advance towards the deputy, who deployed his baton, with no effect, causing him to discharge his service weapon at Palma.

EMS crews said they transported Palma, from the scene around 3 p.m. to University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The deputy was not injured during the incident.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the incident.
