Cleveland police are investigating a drive-by shooting that injured 2-year-old Sunday night.

"A mother's worst nightmare for real," Ronnetta Malcolm told News 5 on Monday. "A mother's worst nightmare, it really is."

Around 9 p.m., officers responded to the 6800 block of Guthrie Avenue on the city's west side, near the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood for shots fired.

"You always hear gunshots. That's the worst fear that it comes through the house and hits one of my kids," Malcolm said.

Ronnetta was in bed, her two-year-old daughter asleep next to her when she heard gunshots.

"She just started screaming in her sleep, her whole body jumped up and I grabbed her and the other babies," she said.

Outside Malcolm's house, a man was firing a gun as he ran down Guthrie Avenue.

A witness said it started when she got out of her car and started walking up to her porch.

"I turn my head, he started shooting at me, the next three rounds I was already over the banister," she said.

She jumped back in her car and took off.

Tonight, Ronnetta is holding her baby a little tighter.

"Feeling blessed that I still got my baby," she said.
