23-year-old man sentenced to life in prison for killing Warrensville Heights man

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting and killing a 39-year-old Warrensville Heights man.

On Nov. 4, 2018, Demarcus Sanders and the victim argued outside of his home on Warrensville Center Road near Sunset Drive.

Sanders went inside of his home, got a handgun, walked back outside and chased the victim after he ran away, according to court documents.

He fired one shot and missed before chasing him over 800 feet and shooting two more times, according to court documents.

According to court documents, the victim collapsed and Sanders went through his pockets and stole his money before running back home.

When police attempted to arrest Sanders, he refused to turn himself in.

A SWAT team responded to his residence and tear gas was deployed. After several hours, police entered his home and found him hiding under blankets in a bathroom, according to court documents.

Sanders was found guilty of two counts of aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault.
