CLEVELAND — An East Cleveland police pursuit ended in a crash that hospitalized five people, according to East Cleveland police and EMS.

Officers began a pursuit with a vehicle driven by a man police said had a loaded firearm who had threatened to shoot a woman.

As the vehicle involved was being pursued by police, it was involved in a crash near East 55th Street and Interstate 90, hitting another vehicle head-on according to police.

The driver involved in the pursuit attempted to flee on foot after the crash but was taken into custody, police said.

While attempting to place the driver under arrest, two officers were injured, according to police.

Police said the driver had a loaded stolen firearm in the vehicle.

EMS said they responded to the scene and transported a 63-year-old woman, a 65-year-old-man, a 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman to nearby hospitals, all in stable condition.
