NORTH RANDALL, Ohio — An Amazon employee who worked at the facility in North Randall has died from COVID-19, the company confirmed in statement.
“We are saddened by the loss of an associate who had worked at our site in Randall. Her family and loved ones are in our thoughts, and we are supporting her fellow colleagues,” said Rachael Lighty, a spokesperson for Amazon.
The employee last worked at the facility on April 30 when it was confirmed she had tested positive for COVID-19. The site was not alerted of her positive result until May 8, Amazon said.
Amazon said when it learned of her death on May 18, they immediately reached out to the family for support.
Right now, Amazon is in the process of updating all site employees and plans to offer counseling to team members.
"Amazon has invested heavily in proactive measures to protect and support the health and safety of our employees – the rate of infection at our Randall, OH is significantly below the rate of the community itself, and we see that in our quarantine rates as well," the company said in a news release.
All workers have been required to wear masks since April 15. Amazon said when a case is confirmed in one of its buildings, it tells all individuals who work on the site, not just those who come in contact with a diagnosed individual.
