Berea-Midpark junior who died unexpectedly is first pediatric flu-related death in Ohio this season

BEREA, Ohio — Kaylee Roberts, the junior at Berea-Midpark High School who died unexpectedly on New Year’s Eve, has become the first pediatric flu-related death in Ohio this flu season, according to the Ohio and Cuyahoga Department of Health.

Her uncle told News 5 she went to the emergency room on Christmas Day and then returned to the hospital two days later.

On New Year's Eve she passed away.

The family has setup a GoFundMe account to help with funeral costs.

The Berea City School District released the following statement after her death:

It is with great sadness that we inform our Titans community of the passing of BMHS junior Kaylee Roberts yesterday. We are currently working with the Western Cuyahoga County Crisis team to have staff at BMHS ‪tomorrow morning from 9:00‬ a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to support students or staff.
