EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — A vehicle that was stolen at gunpoint in Fairview Park was pursued by East Cleveland police until it struck a police car; the three occupants bailed out and were caught after a brief foot chase, according to police.
At about 10:19 p.m., East Cleveland officers saw a Subaru at Superior Avenue and Carlyon Road which had previously been placed on a “be on the lookout” order from Fairview Park police, according to a news release from police. The vehicle was taken with keys at gunpoint on Lorain Road near West 202.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled with three people inside, the release states. The vehicle struck a marked police car on East 72nd Avenue at the westbound I-90 entrance ramp.
The vehicle continued to try to evade police with a flat tire, which ignited, police said. The three occupants then bailed from the vehicle and were arrested after a foot pursuit.
As of 11:30 p.m., Fairview Park police were in the process of responding to the scene to take possession of the vehicle and take the occupants into custody, police said.
