BAY VILLAGE — Cold and flu season has hit a Bay Village elementary school so hard this season that school officials have decided to close the school for the remainder of the week due to a higher than normal amount of absences.

According to an alert published on the Bay Village City School District's website, "due to significantly higher than normal rates of student absences at Westerly Elementary School, we will close Westerly Elementary ONLY for the two remaining school days this week."

Westerly Elementary School is the only facility in the district that will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

While closed, the school district said that it plans to bring in a professional cleaning company to clean and sanitize the building. The closure will also allow students to catch up on work if they have fallen behind.
