EUCLID, Ohio — Authorities say a Euclid man is facing federal charges for convincing a 13-year-old Canadian girl to send nude photos of herself and then sharing them on social media.

Tyrin B. Davis, 20, was charged with sexual exploitation of a child, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Last year, Davis allegedly told the girl he would pay her $1,000 for nude photos. The girl complied, saying that the money could help out her parents who were in financial distress, authorities said.

The defendant then “enticed and extorted” the teen into sending more photographs by telling her he would share the ones she previously sent if she didn't send more, authorities said.

According to the attorney’s office, when the girl tried to sever communication with Davis, he sent photos of the teen to her friends on Instagram. Davis then allegedly tried to extort the teen’s cousin into sending nude photographs of herself, saying that if she declined, he would share more of the 13-year-old's photographs online.

The girl and her mother went to Toronto police about the situation last May.

Authorities said they were eventually able to track down Davis using his IP address.

“This case demonstrates the danger posed by the Internet, particularly for teens posting photos and communicating with people they don’t really know,” U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman said. “Parents and trusted adults need to make it their business to know who their kids are talking to.”

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Toronto Police Service.
