Dozens of people gathered in Cleveland Saturday to pray and call for answers in the death of 15-month-old girl.
Morgan Dillard was found unresponsive at a Warrensville Heights home last Saturday.
Tariq Debardeleben, 19, was charged Tuesday with one count of murder. He pleaded not guilty and is being held without bond.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner says Morgan was beaten to death.
Dillard's mother, La'Shea Mitchell, said she left her daughter with a relative last Saturday while she was at work. She said she doesn’t know Debardeleben and has many questions.
“What was going through your head? Why would you do this to my baby? This is my only baby,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell is thankful for the support of her family, friends and neighbors.
“If they weren’t here, I’d probably be crying at everything,” said Mitchell. “They helped me get through a lot today.”
Dillard’s wake is on Friday.
