BROOK PARK, Ohio — State troopers are investigating after a Garfield Heights man was shot and killed while driving on I-480 near I-77 in Independence Monday night.
Troopers responded at around 8:41 p.m. for a call from the Independence Police Department requesting assistance with a shooting death and crash on I-480.
A 2008 Mazda CX-9 was located in the snow-covered grass median with damage to its right front.
An investigation revealed that Independence police received a call at about 7:00 p.m. for shots being fired from an unknown vehicle at the CX-9 as it traveled westbound on I-480.
The driver of the CX-9, identified as Robert R. Fentress, 33, of Garfield Heights, continued a short distance before he crashed into a guardrail and ended up in the median.
Officers administered first aid to Fentress who had a gunshot wound. Troopers said despite their efforts, Fentress died at the scene.
The OSHP is asking anyone with information about this shooting to call investigators at 216-213-2792.
