MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — The new Operation Legend task force arrested a man wanted for a carjacking.
Authorities said a woman was carjacked at gunpoint on June 22 at Eastgate Plaza in Mayfield Heights.
According to the victim, the unknown man said “If you touch the gas pedal, I’ll shoot you.” She got out of her vehicle and the man sped off in her vehicle.
Police determined James Belle III was behind the carjacking due to DNA obtained from a "Black and Mild" cigar tip recovered from inside the stolen vehicle.
On July 20, an arrest warrant was issued for Belle.
When police executed the warrant, Belle was allegedly breaking out the screens of multiple windows on a second-floor home on Union Avenue.
Belle was transferred into federal custody on July 29.
He has been charged with possessing a firearm and taking a motor vehicle that has been transported, shipped, or received in interstate or foreign commerce from the person or presence of another by force and violence. He also allegedly had and showed a firearm during a crime of violence.
