Euclid Police said they are searching for Brandon Cleveland, 26, after he allegedly pointed a gun at an officer at the Richmond Hills apartment complex overnight.

Brandon is charged with felony assault and weapons under disability, but as of Friday afternoon he was still at large.

An off-duty Euclid police officer is also on administrative leave after he fired shots at Cleveland.

According to officers at the scene, the off-duty officer was working security in the 25400 block of Euclid Avenue around 12:30 a.m. when he approached an SUV in the parking lot after smelling marijuana.

At some point, Cleveland allegedly pulled a gun out and pointed it at the officer. The officer fired several shots, but it is unclear whether Cleveland was hit. It is also unclear whether Cleveland fired his gun.

Police said Cleveland was able to get away by running into the woods east of the apartment complex.

Police located a gun in the woods.

The other person in the car was taken into custody.

Multiple police departments in the surrounding area and a regional SWAT team searched the woods and the nearby apartment buildings for hours but were unable to locate the suspect.

The Euclid officer was not injured. Police said there did not appear to be any threat to the general public.
