INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 480 just before the Valley View bridge at Interstate 77 Friday afternoon.

Around 3:33 p.m., troopers were called to the scene of the crash involving a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2007 Ford Fusion.

The driver of the Camaro, later identified as 26-year-old Davon Martell Walker Hardy, was traveling east in the far left lane when he crossed three lanes of traffic and struck the Fusion from behind, troopers said.

Hardy continued off the right side of the road between a median wall and a guardrail before striking a concrete bridge support pillar, according to troopers.

The Fusion, having lost control, struck the median wall before coming to a stop, troopers said.

EMS transported Hardy to Marymount Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to troopers.

Hardy was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Fusion was seen by EMS on scene but refused transportation to the hospital, troopers said.

Authorities closed all eastbound lanes on I-480 and diverted traffic due to the crash. The bridge that was struck did not suffer any serious damage, only cosmetic damage, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The crash and Hardy’s condition at the time of the crash remains under investigation, according to troopers.
