Residents on East 76th Street in Cleveland are fed up with random gunfire hitting their homes in the middle of the night.
A 41-year-old woman was grazed in the leg by a bullet around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday as she slept in her second-story bedroom.
The home next door to hers, in the 2200 block of East 78th Street was hit with at least a dozen bullets, shattering several windows.
Shandra Jackson-Pickett and her husband have lived there for the last 12 years, but are now looking to move.
“It was like firecrackers going off really fast, back to back,” Jackson-Pickett said.
She said she’s grateful no one was seriously hurt but wants the shootings to stop.
“Why? Because we don’t bother anybody," she said. "We’ve been living here all this time, our kids are grown and moved out, so why? Who would do this? That’s what is going through my head.”
A few doors down, another neighbor showed us bullet holes riddling her home from three separate shootings in months past.
“Get on the floor and call the police. Report it. Nothing else we can do,” she said.
None of them know why their typically quiet street seems to be targeted but said it gets extremely dark at night because street lights have been out of service for the last several years.
The neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said she has called the City of Cleveland to put in requests for the lights to be repaired several times and has been told, “They’re working on it.”
Cleveland police are investigating the shooting. Since it was so dark out at the time, there is no shooter description available.
When reached by News 5, a Cleveland Public Power spokesperson said they will send a crew to the street to investigate and make any necessary repairs.
