SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 17-year-old boy has been charged in connection to a shooting that left another teen with a gunshot wound to the stomach on Van Aken Boulevard in Shaker Heights last month, according to Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court.

The teen, who is not being named because he’s a minor, has been charged with felonious assault and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

On Jan. 31 at around 10:31 p.m., Shaker Heights police responded to a female who was shot in the 16000 block of Van Aken Boulevard.

The victim, identified as a 17-year-old South Euclid resident, had been struck in the abdomen. She was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later released, police said.

At the time of the shooting, police said the victim’s 17-year-old boyfriend was being detained during the investigation. It’s unknown at this time whether the teen charged at this time is the victim’s boyfriend.
