A daytime shooting outside a school Wednesday sent a 13-year-old boy to the hospital, Cleveland police said.

The drive-by gunfire rang out around 4:00 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at Benham Avenue right outside a playground and Nathan Hale School.

The teen stated that he was walking with his friends when they noticed a 4-door silver sedan approaching them. The driver pointed a silver handgun at the teen and it wasn't until he started running that he realized he had been shot.

The boy was transported to Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting, but it left parents concerned.

“I feel like violence is kind of overtaking the neighborhood,” Ebony Jones said, “And not making it a safe place for our kids.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Cleveland Police.
