A Cleveland woman has been charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of man last week.

Candice Baker is accused of stabbing David Welch with a knife in their home in the 9600 block of Reno Avenue between March 5 and March 8, according to Cleveland Municipal Court documents.

Police arrested Baker, 40, Friday at about 9 p.m. She was being held in the county jail on a $50,000 bond. Baker is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing March 21.

Welch, 54, who was also known as Dawud Jalyil, was found behind a grocery store by a 17-year-old boy who was riding his bike in the area.

The teenager told someone "I think someone is laying down in the vacant lot," according to a police report.

Once officers arrived, they found Welch lying face down "as if he was sleeping," the report said.

The investigation is ongoing.
