WESTLAKE, Ohio — A woman was cited for child endangerment after crashing her vehicle while driving under the influence with her 6-year-old child in the vehicle Thursday evening, according to the Westlake Police Department.
Around 8:45 p.m., officers were called to the parking lot of Sturbridge Apartments on Westford Circle for a single car crash.
Once on scene, officers found a vehicle had landed in a creek after it missed the bridge on the property, police said.
The water in the creek was low enough that it did not make it into the vehicle, according to police.
Officers found a 28-year-old driver and her 6-year-old child in the vehicle and assisted both of them out of it. While doing so, officers noted that the 28-year-old driver appeared to be impaired, police said.
The woman and her child were both transported to a nearby hospital to be examined.
Police cited the woman for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, child endangering and failure to secure a child in a booster seat.
The 6-year-old child was turned over to a relative and Cuyahoga County Child and Family Services was contacted, according to police.
