Woman injured when bullets tear through home daycare in Cleveland Heights

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 37-year-old woman inside a Cleveland Heights home daycare was struck by a bullet when gunfire erupted outside the residence Monday evening.

The shooting happened just after 5:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of Hartwood Road.

According to Cleveland Heights police, nearby officers heard around a dozen gunshots and quickly responded to the scene.

After arriving, police said that they found the woman lying on the ground in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to her arm.

Officers administered first aid until paramedics arrived.

The woman's two sons were inside the home as well as several other children she was watching when the shooting happened, authorities said.

Police found several bullet holes on the home's exterior as well as inside where bullets had struck furniture. A total of seven bullet holes were located.

A witness later told police that they saw two people running from the area after the shots were fired but were unable to provide a specific description of the individuals.
