VERMILION, Ohio — Police responded to two separate crashes caused by suspected overdoses on State Route 2 in Vermilion Thursday night.

First crash

Police responded to the area of State Route 2 and Baumhart Road around 5:49 p.m. to help the Ohio State Highway Patrol with a crash involving a possible injury.

EMS and Vermilion fire also responded to the scene. The male driver was suspected of having a drug overdose while driving, which caused him to crash, police said.

Second crash

Approximately 48 minutes later at around 6:37 p.m., officers responded to another crash on SR 2 near the Sunnyside Road exit.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a female driver unresponsive because of a suspected overdose. After officers administered Narcan, the driver was revived and transported to Mercy Health Vermilion Primary Care for treatment.

The driver was charged with an OVI, driving under suspension and failure to control, according to police.

Police submitted a chemical test to determine what caused the overdose in the second crash.
