BERLIN TOWNSHIP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that killed a 51-year-old Huron man on a motorcycle Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at around 12:31 p.m. on US 6 near mile marker 21 in Berlin Township, located in Erie County.

An investigation revealed a Ford Escape driven by an 87-year-old Vermilion woman was traveling westbound on US 6. A Harley Davidson driven by Matthew Solberg, 51, of Huron was heading eastbound on US 6.

The 87-year-old woman failed to stop while making a left turn, causing her to hit Solberg and ejecting him off the bike. His passenger, a 44-year-old woman from Huron was seriously injured from the crash and was transported to Firelands Hospital, troopers said. Neither the driver nor the passenger of the motorcycle were wearing helmets.

Troopers said Solberg was life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died the following day from his injuries.

The 87-year-old woman was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and her passenger was treated at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
