PERKINS TOWNSHIP, Ohio — An 8-year-old has died after a shooting in Perkins Township.
The shooting happened Saturday around 4 p.m. in the 5000 block of Memphis Avenue.
Police said the child was being transported in a personal vehicle to the hospital.
The vehicle was located on Columbus Avenue and officers met them, transferred the child into an ambulance, and transported the child to the hospital.
The child died at the hospital.
Officials said the child was allegedly shot by a 13-year-old relative.
Authorities said that while they believe the shooting may have been accidental, after speaking with the Erie County Prosecutors office, the 13-year-old was taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile Justice Center.
The investigation is ongoing.
