HURON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Erie County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent homicide-suicide attempt in Huron Township.

Deputies responded to the 500 block of Snowy Egret Drive on Tuesday evening, sheriff's officials confirmed. When they arrived, they found a woman and a teenager suffering from gunshot wounds.

Heather Schmidt, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said she was the victim.

A 16-year-old boy was flown to Metro Hospital in very critical condition, officials said.

Schmidt's younger son discovered the two in the basement of the home and called 911.

Deputies said they have been dispatched to the home numerous times in the past.

The home has surveillance video that may have captured the incident and is being reviewed, according to the Erie County Sheriff.
