WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio — The Willoughby Fire Department is battling the second fire in a week at the same apartment complex, according to authorities.
Fire crews responded to the Pine Ridge Apartments in the 2200 block of Par Lane for an underground equipment fire Monday afternoon, authorities said.
All residents inside of the building were evacuated after a transformer malfunction caused the fire and power outage. They have all been relocated and are safe, officials said.
The Red Cross has provided beds to residents staying inside of the complex's community center.
Authorities said the fire was not impacting traffic on state Route 84, but asked those nearby to still avoid the area.
Less than a week ago, Willoughby Fire Department responded to The Village at Pine Ridge, located in Pine Ridge Apartments, for another fire.
The Oct. 15 fire closed off SR 84 west of SOM Center Road while crews worked to put out the flames.
