AVON LAKE, Ohio — A 64-year-old female driver is facing a slew of charges after she allegedly struck and killed a man riding his bicycle on Lake Road near the Sheffield Lake-Avon Lake border Thursday evening, according to a news release.

Sharan A. Carr, 64, of Sheffield Lake, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, failure to stop after an accident, reasonable control and operating a vehicle under the influence, police said.

Police responded to the scene at about 9:45 p.m. after initial information revealed a cyclist was struck by a vehicle on Lake Road just west of Miller Road. After hitting the cyclist, Carr continued westbound into the City of Sheffield Lake, police said.

A 66-year-old man, located on the north side of Lake Road, was life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center. In an updated news release Friday, police said the cyclist died from his injuries.

The Avon Police Department will not release the name of the victim as a courtesy to family members, who have not yet been notified.

"We would however like to express our sincere heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family members for their tragic loss," police said in a statement.
