The driver who allegedly hit and killed a 17-year-old girl in Eastlake on Tuesday has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle under the influence, and failure to control. The vehicular homicide charge is a felony.

The tragic incident took place on Vine Street near East 337th, where police say Eric Dean Jones, 26, of Akron, drove off the right side of the road and struck high school student Maddisan Chase of Eastlake with his work truck.

Police say the truck eventually crashed into a pole.

Chase was transported to Lake Health Medical Center West, where she was pronounced dead.

This morning Jones appeared in Willoughby Municipal Court via video arraignment, where he entered a not guilty plea. Bond was set at $500,000 cash before he was set to be transported to Lake County Jail.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Chase's family pay for her funeral.
