PD: Juvenille in custody for gun found in HS

Police have a juvenile suspect in custody after officials found a gun hidden in a Harvey High School bathroom Tuesday morning, Painesville Police Chief Anthony Powalie reported.
 
Police are awaiting for gun test results before taking further action. Authorities sent the gun out to determine its authenticity and whether it was loaded, police said. Even should the gun turn out to be a replica, charges will be made, according to police.

At about 8:50 a.m., school officials were notified of a weapon hidden in a restroom a contacted police.  

Painesville Police SRO immediately secured the bathroom.

The weapon was recovered and secured quickly.

The police department additionally requested a K9 unit from Geauga County Sheriff's Office and completed a search of the building. 

Students and staff were secured in their classrooms until the search was completed.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Harvey High School was also the target of multiple bomb threats in 2015 by a Painessville Township 17-year-old. The juvenile was arrested after after he confessed to making more than 100 bomb threats to schools and other locations nationwide, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
 
On Dec. 2, the 17-year-old was sentenced to five years confinement at the Ohio Department of Youth Services or until his 21st birthday. The court also ordered a 13-year prison term with the Ohio Department of Corrections.
 
The school is working with the police department to complete its investigation of Tuesday's gun finding and to ensure the safety of the students.
