A Mentor teenager has been released on $100,00 bond following an arrest on child pornography charges.

The city said the 15-year-old was taken into custody last week after a month-long investigation.

He has been charged with 36 felony counts, including pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. He was sent home with a GPS monitor.

The teen was a student at Mentor High School.

The Mentor School District released a statement Saturday afternoon addressing recent misinformation circulating in the community regarding this event:

Mentor Schools is providing the following statement in order to address the misinformation circulating throughout the community related to the recent arrest of a juvenile on felony charges.

As we shared earlier this week, the District is aware of the recent arrest of a juvenile who was previously enrolled in our district. The arrest comes as a result of an investigation by law enforcement and we have fully cooperated with law enforcement in connection with their process.

We want to assure our community that the juvenile in question has not attended school or been present on any district property since the time of the arrest. Any indication otherwise from any source is simply not accurate.

While we are limited by various laws in disclosing more specific information, the District is able to share that the juvenile is no longer a student of Mentor Schools.

We appreciate the continued support of our community.

The court added a term requiring the teen to attend his new school, which he plans to transfer to, and allowing him to learn remotely during this time.

In an email, the district said it has taken a number of steps to ensure that students and staff are able to operate without additional disruption.
