47-year-old Avon man drowned in South Central Park Pond

A 47-year-old Avon man drowned in South Central Park Pond on Wednesday evening.

North Ridgeville Fire Department and EMS arrived at South Central Park Pond  around 6:45 p.m. following reports of a man underwater.

Bystanders said the man began to struggle after entering the water in an attempt to retrieve a remote controlled boat.

Two police officers were searching the water in an attempt to rescue the man.

A woman who was nearby started directing crews to where the man was last seen.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Bruce Galady, 47, of Avon.

He was located at the bottom of the pond and was pulled out at around 7:09 p.m.

CPR and advanced life support were immediately administered. 

Galady was taken to University Hospitals St. John Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
